Philadelphia Eagles: Ranking Every Game on the 2022 Schedule - Sportscasting | Pure Sports (2024)

Optimism is flooding over the city of Philadelphia right now, as the Eagles are putting together an impressive offseason that should give them a chance to overtake the Dallas Cowboys as the NFC East champions in 2023. A soft schedule should help Jalen Hurts and company take a massive leap this season.

Looking at the recently released schedule, let’s go through and rank every game from the least exciting to the absolute must-watch.

The take-it-or-leave-it games

“A lot of emotions. I’m sure fans will eat that up.”

17. Week 9 @ Houston Texans — Thursday, Nov. 3

Starting off the list with this stinker. Just secure a win and get the heck out of Texas.

16. Week 15 @ Chicago Bears — Sunday, Dec. 18

Playing at Soldier Field is usually a treat for opposing teams, but not against this rebuilding version of the Bears.

15. Week 14 @ New York Giants — Sunday, Dec. 11

Every recent game between the Eagles and Giants has either been a blowout or a sloppy slugfest. In the cold New York weather, this isn’t exactly one to look forward to.

14. Week 1 @ Detroit Lions — Sunday, Sept. 11

This might’ve been ranked dead last on the list if it wasn’t being played in Week 1. The season-opener is always a must-watch no matter the opponent.

13. Week 18 vs. New York Giants — TBD

Bleh. Do we really have to play these guys twice again?

12. Week 17 vs. New Orleans Saints — Sunday, Jan. 1

This game could be crucial to playoff seeding if the Eagles have a solid season, and handing the Saints a loss would only improve Philly’s first-round draft pick in 2023.

The “how good are the Eagles, really?” games

11. Week 5 @ Arizona Cardinals — Sunday, Oct. 9

Kyler Murray is always fun to watch, and the result in this one could matter toward playoff seeding later in the year.

10. Week 11 @ Indianapolis Colts — Sunday, Nov. 20

There’s no better test for your run defense than facing Jonathan Taylor and the Colts’ beastly offensive line. This is going to be a fun one if you love the trenches.

9. Week 12 vs. Green Bay Packers — Sunday, Nov. 27 (Sunday Night Football)

Aaron Rodgers has had a field day with Philadelphia’s secondary over the years, but the Eagles finally have some able bodies back there to combat the future Hall of Famer.

8. Week 3 @ Washington Commanders — Sunday, Sept. 25

Carson Wentz coughing up two fumbles and throwing a late interception to lose his first-ever game against the Eagles? Sign us up.

7. Week 6 vs. Dallas Cowboys — Sunday, Oct. 16

The Dallas game is always a highly anticipated home matchup. A win in Week 6 could be crucial in building an early lead in the NFC East.

6. Week 2 vs. Minnesota Vikings — Monday, Sept. 19 (Monday Night Football)

Darius Slay vs. Justin Jefferson should be a treat. A big game from the one that got away won’t be good for the morale of Eagles fans everywhere.

The must-watch games, no exceptions

Troy Aikman, on an ESPN conf. call with Joe Buck, was asked about MNF in Week 10, when Carson Wentz returns to Philly as a Commander:

“This is probably his last opportunity, just being blunt about it, to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback in the NFL."

5. Week 8 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers — Sunday, Oct. 30

The battle of Pennsylvania is an underrated rivalry in the NFL. Always nice to see this matchup on the schedule.

4. Week 4 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars — Sunday, Oct. 2 (Sunday Night Football)

Philly fans will be so happy to see Doug Pederson back in the Linc that they wouldn’t even mind losing the game. That shouldn’t be an issue against the rebuilding Jaguars, though.

3. Week 13 vs. Tennessee Titans — Sunday, Dec. 4

Nothing like a home game against the reigning No. 1 seed in the AFC to get the juices flowing. A.J. Brown might go for 200 yards and two touchdowns against his old team.

2. Week 16 @ Dallas Cowboys — Saturday, Dec. 24

Game 2 against the Cowboys could very well decide the NFC East division. Wouldn’t it be nice to rip their hearts out in the house that Jerry built?

1. Week 10 vs. Washington Commanders — Monday, Nov. 14

Was there really any other choice for the No. 1 spot? Carson Wentz’s return to Lincoln Financial Field is simply must-watch television. Make sure your volume is on 100 so you can hear the harmonious chorus of boos from your living room.
