Juneteenth – June 19

Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, and it is the holiday celebrating the emancipation of those enslaved in the United States. This holiday dates back to 1865, which was actually two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Depending on your kid’s age and level of explanation they can understand, here are several great websites to explain this holiday in great detail. In 2021, Juneteenth was made a federal holiday.
